SMS terms

Health-related texts from your clinic.

If your clinic enrolls you in Helose follow-up texting, these terms apply. Your clinic sends messages; Helose provides the messaging technology as their vendor.

Not for emergencies. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or your clinic's emergency line. Do not rely on text messages for urgent care.

Please note in particular

  • You may receive health-related SMS from your clinic through Helose (reminders, care-plan follow-up, and your replies).
  • Messages are protected in transit between our systems and our messaging provider. Standard text messages may not be encrypted on the path to your phone.
  • If you opt in, you accept the privacy risks of text messaging, including lock-screen previews.
  • Keep your phone private and password-protected. Tell your clinic if your number changes.
  • Reply STOP to opt out. Not for emergencies: call 911 or your clinic's emergency line.
  • Your clinic's Notice of Privacy Practices governs your health information.

By opting in, you agree

You agree to receive health-related text messages from your clinic through Helose. Messages may include appointment reminders, care plan follow-up, lab preparation instructions, and replies to questions you send in the thread.

SMS is not encrypted by your carrier

Messages are protected in transit between our systems and our messaging provider, and stored encrypted. Standard text messages may not be encrypted on the path to your phone. Your mobile carrier, device manufacturer, and others may process message content. If you choose to receive health-related texts, you accept the privacy risks of this channel.

Short texts and secure pages

We keep texts as short as practical: reminders and simple replies (for example, a number rating or yes/no). When more detail is needed, your clinic may send a link to a secure web page served over encrypted HTTPS.

Your responsibilities

  • Keep your phone password-protected and private.
  • Do not use a shared family or clinic device for health-related texts.
  • Others may see message previews on your lock screen. Disable lock-screen previews if that concerns you.
  • Tell your clinic immediately if your phone number changes.
  • Do not use this service for medical emergencies. Call 911 or your clinic's emergency line.

Message content

Messages may include your name and health-related context (for example, care-plan reminders, lab preparation, or your replies about how you are doing). Detailed schedules or instructions may appear on a secure web page instead of in the text itself. This is protected health information handled under your clinic's privacy practices and Helose's Business Associate Agreement with your clinic.

How to opt out

Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe from future texts on that clinic line. Reply HELP for assistance. Your clinic is responsible for honoring opt-out requests. Opting out of texts does not affect your right to receive care from your clinic through other channels.

Governing privacy policy

Your clinic's Notice of Privacy Practices governs how your health information is used and disclosed. Helose acts as a business associate to your clinic. For clinic-specific questions, contact your practice directly.

Costs

Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier. Helose does not charge patients directly unless your clinic offers a separate paid messaging program and discloses that to you at enrollment.

These SMS Terms describe Helose's messaging channel. They are not a substitute for your clinic's Notice of Privacy Practices or informed consent for care. This is not legal advice.
